I don't believe PH testing is something backyard food gardeners need to really worry to much about, as I've been growing lost of food over the past 3 years successfully and not bothered. I became a little concerned as I mentioned above with quite a lot of free coffee grinds being added to my compost.
Soil PH is an indication of the soils acidity or alkalinity and is measured in PH units. The PH scale goes from 0 to 14 with PH 7 as the neutral point. As the amount of hydrogen irons in the soil increases, the soil PH decreases, thus becoming acidic.
PH is a negative log of hydrogen (H+) activity in aqueous solution. So PH values are reported on a negative log scale. That means a PH of 6 has 10 times more hydrogen ions than PH 7 and PH 5 has 100 times more hydrogen ions than PH 7.................................................................................................

I agree. Way too many people stuff around with PH tests. And I still havenn't met anyone who had a serious PH issue.
Hi Marcus, what are you planting at the moment?
